-
A child should see a dietitian when there are ongoing feeding difficulties, restricted eating habits, slow growth, or specific medical concerns affecting nutrition. At Beam Dietitians, we support children of all ages—from infants to teenagers—who struggle with food aversions, weight management, or digestive issues. Our experienced paediatric dietitians provide personalised, evidence-based guidance to help children thrive. Early support can prevent nutritional deficiencies and ensure your child builds a healthy, positive relationship with food.
-
Nutritionists help children develop healthy eating habits and ensure they get the nutrients needed for growth and development. At Beam Dietitians, our paediatric dietitians assess dietary patterns, address feeding concerns, and create tailored plans for each child’s needs. Whether your child is a fussy eater, has food allergies, or needs help managing weight, we provide practical, compassionate advice. Our goal is to make mealtimes less stressful and help children enjoy food while building lifelong healthy habits.
-
If your child struggles with feeding, refuses a wide range of foods, has digestive issues, or isn’t growing as expected, seeing a dietitian can be very beneficial. At Beam Dietitians, we offer expert support for infants, toddlers, and teens facing nutritional challenges. Our 1:1 consultations focus on understanding your child’s unique needs and helping them achieve a balanced diet. Early intervention can make a lasting difference in improving both their health and their confidence with food.
-
Dietitians have more advanced clinical training and are legally regulated healthcare professionals, while nutritionists may not always hold the same level of qualification. At Beam Dietitians, our registered paediatric dietitians are specialists with over 10 years of combined clinical experience, working in one of the UK’s largest children’s hospitals. We base all our recommendations on scientific evidence and best practice, ensuring your child receives safe, effective, and personalised nutrition advice for their individual needs.
-
No, a nutritionist is not a doctor. However, dietitians, like those at Beam Dietitians, are healthcare professionals with degree-level qualifications in nutrition and dietetics. Our paediatric dietitians are trained to assess, diagnose, and manage nutrition-related conditions in children. While not medical doctors, we often collaborate with GPs, paediatricians, and therapists to ensure your child receives complete, well-rounded care. Our evidence-based approach focuses on promoting healthy growth and positive eating behaviours through expert nutritional guidance.
-
Before seeing a dietitian, it’s helpful to keep a brief food diary for your child, noting what they eat, their mealtime behaviours, and any concerns such as allergies or digestive symptoms. At Beam Dietitians, we encourage parents to jot down questions or goals they’d like to discuss. Bringing relevant medical or growth information can also be useful. This preparation allows our dietitians to provide more targeted, practical advice during your consultation and create a personalised plan for your child’s needs.
-
The number of sessions needed depends on your child’s individual needs and progress. At Beam Dietitians, some families notice positive changes after just one or two consultations, while others benefit from ongoing support to monitor growth and eating behaviours. We offer flexible in-person, telephone, and virtual appointments to make follow-ups easy and accessible. Our goal is to provide consistent, evidence-based guidance until your child feels confident and happy around food.
-
Yes, seeing a dietitian is absolutely worth it if your child faces feeding challenges or nutrition concerns. We combine evidence-based strategies with a personalised approach to improve your child’s nutrition, growth, and confidence with food. Investing in expert guidance not only supports your child’s current wellbeing but also helps establish a lifelong foundation for healthy eating habits.
